They developed cuneiform, one of humanity's first writing systems, pioneered advanced mathematics, and introduced the sexagesimal (base-60) system still reflected today in our measurement of time—60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour. Ancient Mesopotamian civilizations also contributed to the development of the wheel, irrigation, banking, and written legal traditions.
